The Asia Arsenic Network started working in Bangladesh from December, 1996. Since then, it has implemented a number of major projects. By implementing these projects, it has created integrated and sustainable approach for arsenic mitigation. It has established some extraordinary systems involving local government institutions, and produced a number of good practices. These are very fruitful in addressing and overcoming the enormous threat of arsenic contamination of groundwater in Bangladesh.

While we are saying this, still it will take decade after decade to ensure a minimum safe water supply. Considering all these, a dream was created in the minds of Bangladeshi and Japanese people who have dedicated their lives for the noble cause of poor arsenicosis victims – it is a centre from where this integrated approach will be ramified and flowered out through the team work of a group which is composed of physician, environmental chemist, awareness motivator, engineer, geologist, volunteers, etc. People from all over the world who are working in this field will find a junction or an abode of meeting, sharing, researching and developing ways and means of arsenic mitigation. It will help in creating a safe haven of solving problems of arsenic contamination of the world. This dream of constructing ‘Arsenic Centre’ was materialized with a never-to-give-up effort of Bangladeshis though purchasing land and contributing 20% of the construction cost. The rest 80% money was donated by the Asia Arsenic Network, Japan.

The Arsenic Centre is now a two-storied building which accommodates
